The more devout they(theists) are the more they see murder as negotiable?
It depends on who is doing the killing and who is getting killed?

I thought the quote was silly, so I was Googling George Marlin. Director of NY Port Authorty?

Oh, George Carlin. That explains it.

It's George Carlin, dear. :-)

But he's got a point.

I do also remember him saying something about how religion actually has people convinced that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, and he has a list of 10 things that he does not want you to do... and if you do any of those 10 things, there is a place of eternal fire and torment and brimstone and torture and pain and anguish...

...but he loves you.
And he needs money.

I would say an even more insidious and destructive belief is that you are no one special. When you die, that's it...nothing. You are no different than anyone else and therefore everyone has the same value, and that means NO ONE has value because there are so many of us. Life is expendable in causes that benefit the here and now.

Premeditated murder is a sin. Killing for the last resort sake of saving a life is completely different and may be condoned if done with a pure heart.

You wouldn't think so given that one of the commandments is "thou shall not kill", but I honestly don't know. I've heard that argument from devout and not so devout alike.

What? What part of thou shalt not kill is it that you don't understand?
Who in the world is George Marlin? Never heard of him.
