In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

Not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb, but in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works.” (1 Timothy 2:9, 10) Paul was urging his Christian sisters to be modest, to be balanced in choosing personal adornment, and to be ‘adorned’ with good works.

Some people counter that the same verses say the adornment is not to be “with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb, but in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works.” Does this mean that women must not fix their hair or wear jewelry?

No, it does not; the Bible speaks well of adornment. So rather than forbidding certain ornamentation, Paul was encouraging women to focus primarily on adorning themselves with Christian qualities and good works.

Paul tells us not to be “judging one another.” We must guard against ‘putting before a brother a stumbling block.’ Standards of what is acceptable may vary from land to land and culture to culture. What is acceptable in one time and place may be inappropriate in another. We should not stumble or offend others by wearing adornment that our culture associates with an objectionable lifestyle. Godly women do well to ask themselves: How does the community view what I wear? Are members of the congregation embarrassed, puzzled, or ashamed because of what I wear? Even if a Christian woman has a right to dress or groom in a certain manner, she will forgo that right if her style of grooming would be offensive.

Are Peter and Paul indicating that Christian women and men should avoid enhancing their appearance? Not at all! In fact, the Bible mentions faithful men and women who used jewelry or cosmetic oils and perfumes. Before her audience with King Ahasuerus, Esther underwent an extensive beauty regimen involving perfumed oils and massage. And Joseph was clothed with garments of fine linen and a necklace of gold.

So, in telling us that our dress and grooming should be modest and well arranged, the Scriptures encourage us to avoid any extreme styles that would offend others and bring reproach upon our reputation and that of the Christian congregation.

Braided with or without other things intertwined. Paul is giving examples of the ways that the women would try to look visually attractive instead of modernly-stated,"having an attractive personality" of good deeds and a kind, gentle heart.
Beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Broided means braided, the original Greek word being "pleg'-mah." Paul's letter to Timothy, in this piece, gives a sample of what living in holiness is about. Women braided their hair, adding adornments to appear beautiful to others. This is vanity, and not consistent with living a life of holiness.

Broided, means braided. There were early Christian women that were more intent on looking beautiful outwardly then inward beauty, and inward Christ likeness character. A carefully groomed and well-decorated exterior is artificial and cold unless inner beauty is present.

like twisting in other materials in to the hair...

Shamefacedness is not a good definition, for that word...

Virtually, women don't purposefully draw lustful attention, be modest in dress and deed, don't look like the harlots.
