Yes people still get perms, I've decided to stop getting them, I want straight hair now. Ive never had nice straight hair so i use a flat iron now. But I know how it is to want what you dont have with hair.

I've had perms my entire life. They really damage your hair, but help give you a lot of volume. You need to understand that perms do not give you the same look as a curling iron, nor do they look like the girls who have naturally curly hair. You can try to emulate the curling iron look by getting a spiral perm (usually twice the cost of a regular perm), but it won't be exactly the same. More often than not, people aren't happy with their perms and they end up straightening their hair everyday which damages it even more! :) You can try it once (they usually last 3-4 months till your hair grows out) and see if you like it. Good luck!

Yes, perms are still available. Actually, straighter hair is leaving the fashion scene in favor of looser curls and waves. Check any major runway and you will see models with curls and waves.
As far as perming goes, depending on your length, a perm done on purple or peach rods will give definite curl but not so tight that they cannot be loosened by blow drying or round brush styling. Ask your salon if they carry the Matrix line, as they are some of the best that are available.

Nowadays, most stylists (true to their art) will discourage something so chemically involved as a perm...it destroys your hair from the ROOT down...try that on top of highlights and/or color and your hair will be the texture of straw for a good 3-6 months.
I would invest in a good set or two of hot rollers. Put some spray gel or mousse on and go to town!

You should get some curling irons because loose curls are so now!
