You can try. It's possible it is freezing up. I had both my shoulders freeze up on me (different years) because the pain was so bad I couldnt move my arm. I ended up needing surgery and then physical therapy. You should talk to a doctor about this before it gets any worse.

You don't say where in your arm it hurts, what happened to make it start hurting, or how long this has been going on. Without that information I can only guess and give a general answer. If the pain feels like the muscles stretching, stretch only till it starts to hurt a small bit, hold for a second, and release. Do this a few times a day and soak it in warm-hot water nightly. If this seems to make it worse, STOP and see a doctor. If the pain is in a joint or feels like a "tearing" sensation, do not try to stretch it just see a specialist.

It depends on the nature of the injury. In other words, why is there pain in the first place? Regardless, my advice is get it looked at before you attempt any "movement despite the pain". Generally speaking, passive range of motion exercises are best to start with. For instance, have someone else lift your arm slightly past the painful point and hold it for a moment while you try to relax the muscles. Again, see a doc first. Best of luck

Pain is the body's way of letting you know that something is not right. My left elbow is sore all of the time. I do stretch it out as best I can. At my age, it's probably arthritis. If the pain is unrelenting and hindering your daily activities, then you need to go see a doctor. An orthopedic man would be best.

How long has it been in pain? If its been more than a week, I would definitely go and get it checked by a doctor.

No wait for the pain to subside. If it does not, then go see a doctor.
