Incense, with its candy-smelling fragrance and prime-ascending smoke, is ordinary of the well Christian's prayer, which, enkindled within the middle by means of the hearth of God's love and exhaling the odour of Christ, rises up a gratifying delivering in His sight (cf. Amalarius, "De eccles. officiis" in P.L., CV). Incensing is the act of presenting the odour of incense.
