Just tell that you like marial arts, and you're interested in pursuing it again. If you think it would feel like asking too much of them because they've already bought you all those things, then ask for it as a birthday present--or offer to pay for the classes with your own money. And it's fine for a 14 yr old to take marial arts. I have a friend who's nearing 16 that's a brown belt. Go for it!

Zuro, my friend. If you had a brown belt by the age of eight there was something wrong with your school. No offense but that is a belt factory.
I believe that true martial arts are very good for you, they help improve your character among other things. "Cool", I am not sure in what aspect you mean. I am sure your parents will support you being in a healthy activity like martial arts but please find a good school. Tips for a good school:
Never sign a contract
Never pay for rank testing.
Look for a clean, friendly training environment.
tell your parents that martial arts will improve your grades, attendance and teach you respect. What parent would say no to that?

Well Anime and Manga really have very little to do with Martial Arts, it only gives the storylines a more dramatic effect.
The idea of studying a Martial Art shouldn't be looked at like it's a fad or the "latest" thing like a trend in fashion or pop culture.
Who cares what anyone else thinks, if you're studying a discipline and YOU like doing it then keep doing it regardless dude.
Martial Arts has a lot more to it than just to "look" cool.
if you want to get back in to Martial Arts and study it again then just ask them, but be prepared for the "you quit last time so why do you want to start again if you plan on quitting again" speech they might throw at you.
If you really want to study Martial Arts, then YOU need to apply yourself just as you would have to do (with anything or) anywhere else.
Just ask your parents, all they can say is "yes" or "no", but don't annoy or pester them about it.
just pass it along at dinner with a question like "Y'know, I was thinking about taking up Martial Arts again. What do you think Mom? Dad?" but as I said, be ready for them to throw the reason why you quit last time back in your face because they prob'ly don't want to see you start going to the classes and then quitting again within a year or so if you don't like it.

If you do take martial arts, I strongly suggest you to keep your mouth firmly shut!
I have seen a guy who told only their closest friends and the words get around school like wild fire. The poor guy end up got picked on, beat up, etc... His life was miserable because no one would leave him lone about it. I've heard of this happening to people who boast about doing martial arts.
Even as a Muay Thai fighter, I'm very caution about who I tell.

Hi, It is always good for children or all ages to have extra curricular activities, especially activities that they themselves enjoy and are interested in. It would be a different story if your parents were putting you into something that you disliked and had no interest in. Since you are definitely showing an interest you should express your desires to your parents. In today's world, with all the problems that teenagers can get into, having a sport, club, or hobby that keeps them entertained and gives them something constructive to do with their time is a must in order for the child to stay grounded and well adjusted. Good Luck!

Casually say one day (when everybody is in a good mood):
"I wanna take martial arts, sometime after the holidays are over and everything slows down, do you think we could look into it a bit?"
It's a good thing to take, ESPECIALLY for a girl, all us girls should know a little self defence.
Good Luck, Merry Christmas!!!!!!

Since I don't know your parents, I'm not sure how best to approach them.
Benefits of Martial Arts you might want to mention include:
More respectful
improved self control
better able to focus
improved grades (there are studies showing this)
Most parents respond positively to these.

It really cool to take martial arts to be cool. It is just a skill. If you take it to show off and to brag then it is not cool. If you take it for a skill then it is cool. To ask your parents. Say that you are almost done and you want to finish up your lesson. Maybe they will let. So that is what you should do.

it is not only "cool" but very good for you. I take martial arts myself ( Kung Fu) and when my son is old enough, he will as well.
Perhaps talk to your parents and even show them this question so they know how sincere you are. Also, explain to them the health benefits and the fact that martial arts builds self esteem, teached self defense, and shows you how to work with many different partners of all types.

Obviously, you're good. But, one problem is a $700 dollar dog? Wow. Okay I say do this. Sit your parents down and promise that you will stick to it. Say that and "promise" that you will do what ever it takes, do chores and stuff like that to get that one chance to take MARTIAL ARTS!
Have Fun BuDDy,
