Same here. I ask them when I go in for their help, that I don't want to see any of what they are using. I look totally the other way, talk to them about other things, ask questions re. how they got into health care, the weather, just anything to divert my attention.
Also learned to be careful what I was saying in my head, which was really not helpful if I wasn't thinking about it. Now I tell myself that it's OK, I'm strong, it'll be over with shortly, etc.
This is a learned fear, I learned it from my Mom & used to be so bad off that I had to lay down during & after.Once I realized that it was learned, I vowed to re-teach myself begining with that self-talk.
It took awhile, butI do good now, still using those same coping skills, youi can too. And, yes, of course, it would be great for you to have your Mum's hand to squeeze.
Take good care now, & Merry Christmas!

If you're having your blood drawn, you may feel a slight pinch when the needle is inserted, but it is very brief, and not very painful. Or, you may feel nothing at all. If you have a difficult time with the sight of blood, then don't look at it. Just look straight ahead at your mum.

yes she can come to hold your hand. It is very simple and can pinch a bit, but is over soon enough. if you have to have future blood work done, ask you dr for some Lindocaine creme - you apply it 1 hr before you go or the draw and your skin will be numb and you wont feel a thing.

Ok, well it will hurt a little bit, but its not really painfull at all. And yes your mom should be able to come in and hold your hand, I dont see why not, just ask then first.
