I am an aqward person my hello even, sounds weird. People say hello to me all day all day -- I hate saying good morning because just because I say it doesn't mean it will happen. It's stupid when you think about it.

LOL...I HATE to say Good Morning also!! I just respond with Hi. I also don't say Good Night when I go to bed. I say bye and leave the room. Weird I know. My husband always makes fun of me about it.
Our PR guy at work (who is a dork, if that mattters) who is on the phone all day responds to 'How are you' with "I'm really just average today, thank you". So stupid...but it's an idea for you!

well, some would say "why do you ask?" are you expecting something is going to happen to me?" but others would say, "im fine, thanks for your concern."
i think it depends on the mood, person attitude, time and situation, there will be more answers that can appropriately applied to your question. some prefer a simple nod and added "fine, thanks". some would say, "better than yesterday" or shrug with sly remarks "why you care" and leave you hanging with your mouth open.
when im sad, if someone asks me that, i start crying. if im mad, i will say "please leave me alone". but if im happy, i always smile and say "im fine, thank you, how about you?" and that makes my day go so fast, i can't believe how many people i say hello too...

The conversation goes like this:
"Hi how are you?"
" All the better for your asking! Thank you!"
Usually makes them think a bit ;)

with another question or just contradict it. like if the person knows something about you that you don't. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HOW AM I, CAN"T YOU SEE I'M FINE. That will probably agitate them.

When someone asks me how I am, I sometimes reply with "compared to what?" It usually makes them laugh or it confuses them.

I usually answer - fair to partly cloudy - with a big grin then ask how they are.
