The Qur'an says not to be split up into sects.

So which current group is the official Islam? Which groups are the ones that split off? Shi'a, or Sunni? Or some other?

What I'm trying to ask is Who is guilty of splitting up into sects? Just one particular group? Or is their an "official Islam" that the others broke away from, and if so, which is that official one?

there's no real difference between shiites and sunnis. both worship God alone, follow the same holy book--Quran and follow the prophet (PBUH). although shiites dont recognize the hadiths narrated by the prophet's companions. they pur more trust in the hadiths narrated by the Prophet's family (his wives, Ali his cousin, and his daughters)

Let me answer the latter questions first. None of the "sects" of Islam is "Official" one. However, if you want to go on the Haj and enter Mecca, then the Wahabi Sunni Sects' version of the Koran is the only one that you can carry in there. Even possesing any other copy will result in the copy being siezed and burnt immediately and your being given 100 lashes.

Other than Shias and Sunnis, you have the Sufi, the Zaidis, the Ismaelis, The Dawoodi Bohra, the Cutchi Memon, The Baha'is, the Ummayadis and so on.

There are really too many to list here.

Of course, everybody thinks that Islam is one, but these Muslims have been killing each other for ages.

After all, what else can you expect from a fictional excuse for a "Religion" that was made for the sake of brain washing people and gaining total Domination by a morally bankrupt, illiterate pedophile?

Merry Christmas!!!!

I agree,Seriously cos am sure everysection is diffrent from the other and translate the quran like they want and thats absolut ta7rif and only is going to hell.... Anyways , i myself wouldnt call myself anything but a muslim just like Muhammad (pbuh) was and still is.. Ah its very hard to believe how people are seperating each other with such abusrd sects when we can all be the same, gods muslims not be devided and cursing each other and calling names and tellinh whos true and whos not.. One who follows quran and sunnah and muhammad is just a muslim why complicate it when its so easy!! (believe me its all about politics and even about islam sections, mainly politician issues, so we go back to the same issue with human ppl, blindness of power and control, what am trying to say here its not islam that has something wrong its the ppl who interrupt it wrong and want control over others and blame all these benefits they want on islam!!!!!!!!!!)

lol huh islam is not nearly as tricky as christianity islam has the sunni's the shiites the kurds wahabi and sufi all of them have the same holy book known as the qu'ran although they each might use a different translation such as the yusuf ali and whatever other translations there are now if you look into christianity you have catholicism and protestantism now catholicism has roman catholicism and catholicism and protestantism has alot of different sects this religion will confuse the hell out of you more then any other religion that's out there due to all of their various sects

follow the Qur'an. The sunnah (pattern) of the Prophet Muhammad is to be followed also. A Muslim is one who submits to the Will Of God. God named us Muslims in the Qur'an. Not sunni or shia'. Stick to the name Muslim. Qur'an 6:159 "As for those who divide their religion into sects, thou has no part in them in the least. Thier affair is with Allah. He (Allah) will tell them what they used to do(on Judgment Day).

There's nothing called official Islam and non-Official Islam

We are all Muslims, we worship one God, believe in Prophet Mohammed (prayers & peace be upon him) and read the same Quran

I don't know which represents the original Muslim religion, but I do know it is not the groups that are trying to kill everybody.
You have a legitimate question. I'd like to know myself.

They're both on the path to hell so does it matter? Accepting and following Christ is THE only way to heaven.
