Cancer is on cell mutating. Then that cell splits into two mutated cells. Then each of those cells split into two more cells, so you now have 4 mutated cells. ANd this continues, this is how cancer grows.
What causes that 1st mutation depends on the cancer.
It can be genitics. Like breast cancer.
Or some outside source (chemical) causes the mutation. Such as smoking causing lung cancer, drinking causing liver cancer.

Not eating fiber helps a person to develop cancer a little more quickly. A high fiber diet is excellent in helping to prevent cancer. Also, people who have worked for many years around asbestos are prone to getting cancer, as was the xase with my dad. Smoking is a reason why people get cancer, both smokers and non-smokers who have to inhale that crap because of the disrespect of smokers.

All cancers are caused by mutations in genes that are responsible for regulating cell growth. Usually, multiple mutations are necessary for cancer to develop. It's all a matter of luck, but you will increase your risk of getting cancer if you expose yourself to any mutagen (which is anything that causes mutations). Common mutagens include UV rays (from sun or tanning), chemicals (ethidium bromide for example), nitrates (in bacon), and rays from space that you are exposed to when flying.
Cancer often runs in families. When this happens, it usually means that the family shares a cancer-causing mutation.
