it all depends on what you like to eat. I've never heard of a person that opens a seafood restaurant, if they really absolutely hate seafood. Write a list of your favorite foods, make a recipe for yourself, also try inventing some new kind of salads, appetizers, main courses and of course desserts. You also got to take into consideration what kind of drinks you want to serve, such as alcoholic beverages, are you just going to have beer and wines? or will you have a full bar and make martinis and other more gourmet drinks (like 20 kinds of milkshakes mmmmm...lol) The possibilties are endless, if you just have a little creativity people will come and give you the buisness. So start that list, and good luck!!!!

Chose a demographic, identify what is bought most often. Check out what is already available in a certain area. What is your competition?

I own 3 food services. All are similar, yet different.

The Filling Station: full service menu, Ribs/Chicken/Steak located down town.

The Snack Shack: wings/fish/shrimp combo's to go, local area with delivery.

The Lunch Box: Quick fix/hot dogs/fries/subs/chips, located near a local college.

You have to know the area, what do they need? Is it a business area? Local hang-out, a bar district? What other restaurants are there? Can you offer something different/faster/better/
cheaper?

You can go about this a few ways. Chose a group/area/ethnic/style or cuisine you really like? Then locate an area that it fits.

Do you really like country cooking, Cajun, European, Italian, Chinese or American classics? Determine what foods you would like to present? Locate an area to suit the need.

Or locate/identify an area first? What type of restaruants are in that area? Is something you think you can do or would like to do?

Food service is an extremely prosperous industry on every level from the small hot dog stand to the full service dine-in's.

I love cooking...........so food is my vocation. And that is "vocation" not vacation.........because it requires a lot of work and dedication to make it work.

Have a hand in every aspect of YOUR company. I personally train every single person that works with me.

This is my business and passion, so I am involved.

I want to add that I was a 9 to 5 worker prior to starting up my first food service. It was a hot dog stand on weekends ONLY.

Good luck in your future ventures...................

Well if you want to open a business, the last thing you want to worry about is what you want to make for food. You'll have ALOT more on your hands then recipes to worry about. Finding a place to buy, hiring cooks, and the list goes on..

that depends on three things what other eating places are in your area, what your personally like to work with and what your price ranges is going to be. If you plan on a wine list and things to go with it they won't be plain hamburgers or hot dogs so decide how much things will go for then make your menu fit that expectation

Purhaps just a restaurant that specializes in soups & salads. Cater to the healthy eaters; maybe your restaurant will turn people's bad eating habits into good ones :).

My wife and I had a pizza restaurant for 11 years. Our kids used to fall asleep under the counter. We retired early in life because of that bussiness. I loved it. Pizza has a high return on your investment.
