As much as I'm sure it hurts you, there isn't a think you can do until they are ready to make changes. All you can do is be a friend with broad shoulders and a box of Kleenex.

Most likely, they will not listen to you. I was in an abusive relationship for too long...am out of it now (due to his untimely suicide 6 years ago)...but kept thinking I could some how "fix" him...I am an intelligent 47 year professional woman, and never thought I would endure what I did. He most likely has her self-esteem so far down she can't see above it...all you can do is love her, and try to help when she asks. My friends threatened to never speak to me again if I went back to him the last time I left..and they meant it..they had put up with all they were going to from me..and I knew they loved me, and that they would not be going to such drastic measures if they didn't. It was a wake-up call for me, and gave me the courage to leave him for good.

Its pretty much like helping an alcoholic, they have to want your help, and be willing to change their actions. Believe it or not, some people are comfortable in abusive relationships. Until your friend gets hurt or fed up enough to leave the abuse behind, all you can do is be there to help them see that there is something else out there whenever they decide they've had enough.

Give them the oppurtunity to speak to a therapist. Tell them that if they are fine then they shouldn't mind doing it.

Try telling their parents, and if that doesn't work then tell someone of authority.
