My hubby is white and although he seems very attracted to me and is very personable and friendly to my sisters and my friends,he seems friendly, but there's always a rigid and defensive undertone in his behavior when around my brothers or any other black male he comes in contact with. His mother is friendly and personale with me,but VERY rude, rigid and defensivearound any black men. With black women, she behaves OVERLY nice(almost sarcastic). What could this be?

It is probably just his insecurities surfacing. Your mother in law sounds as if she is going out of the way to make sure she does not appear to be racist which often backfires and makes people think she is a racist. Why not question your husband about this especially if it seems to bother you.

Maybe she has been hurt by a black man. I hope not because it is possible that she has passed on her issues to her son.
Why are you with someone who has some racist issues?
