It has been at least 3 months since I have lifted weights. I lifted up some weights and did a at least 20 reps. Since two days ago my arms are killing me that I cannot even move my arms. Can somebody tell me how long I have to wait for the pain to go away?

Could take as long as 5 days!

Muscles work on the concept of "use it or loose it". Seeing as how you have been slacking for 3months your muscles have lost thier ability to perform work.

No problem though, muscles have a memory, meaning that as soon as you get back into some type of a routine they will return to full strength soon, and will heal quicker. The more you use them the faster and stronger they will become.

After you overexceed a muscles ability to perform work, you will create microscopic tears in the muscle fiber, these must heal up before you attempt more exercise. Drinking lots of water may help in reducing the lactic acid your muscles store and may speed up the recovery process!

so we learned what? from this little episode....you cannot pick up where you left off 3 months ago..the best thing to do is to do some lifting..LIGHT weights...and maybe 8-10 reps....do this 2 3 times a day and the pain will abate..you have micro tears in the muscle fibers and these must heal...a little exercise can alleviate this pain..by helping the lactic acid that built up in these muscles to eased off ....in the meanwhile...a little advil/aspirin...a warm bath/jacuzzi will help..if you just stop and do nothing..then the pain will last longer...

If I work out really hard, the pain will last for 4 or 5 days, and I've been lifting for years. I love the pain. It means muscle growth. Learn to like it.

The pain will go away when your body considers itself healed. So to speed that process, it is important to take multivitamins and protein supplementation. With a good whey protein powder, you can halve the recovery time.
