Our dachshund has the same problem. Every so often we have to take her to the vet to get her teeth cleaned. This makes a huge difference! Problem is, we have to do it again about every 3-4 months. Call the vet and ask what they think.

You might try greenies which is a dental chew that's supposed to help with breath but bad breath can also be caused by teeth/gum problems. You might want to take the dog to the vet and ask about it if it's extremely bad. Most dogs have dog breath which can be bad but not knock you off your seat bad. Also look into the food you give the dog. Most recommend dry food to keep the teeth clean and gunk from building up. Wet food not only smells when they eat it but when it gets stuck between their teeth it can rot. Dogs don't gargle after all, but you can brush their teeth. There are meat flavored tooth pastes and special brushes to keep their teeth healthy as well. You might try a homeopathic remedy as well. Don't use any human mouth or teeth products without asking the vet first. Dogs can eat a lot more human products than cats can but even humans aren't supposed to swallow toothpaste or mouthwash because too much can poison you. Hope this helps.

I also think it'd be best to go for a real teeth cleaning, as your dog may have the beginnings of a peridontal problem. This can lead to a lot of expensive complications unless dealt with quickly.
A friend recommended this:

and I love it - it's a concentrate you add to their water. Works great!
