Why shouldn't you say anything? Do you think you're too shy or do you want him to make the first move? There should be no problem for you as a girl to be the first to ask. The times when that would have been unthinkable are long past. If it's shyness, you've got to overcome it for a moment. If he's really so cute it will be worthwhile.

You mean ask him out with out putting yourself on the line? Tell him you're meeting friends for coffee and ask him if he'd like to come along. Coffee is very noncommittal imo.
