To me, the answer lies with-in the Spiritual Essence of God's Law. Other words, not what the law says by word or at face valvue. But, what it saids in Truth!
In Romans 10:3 Paul writes; For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
The Bible tells us here that the average person goes about establishing his or her "Own" righteousness.
Ask any average person, if they think there a good person, most will tell you… Yes! I think I’m a good person. Why?
For the Bible says that every man is "pure in their own eyes." In Psalms 30:12 we read; There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
Other words; Humanity proclaims "it’s own" goodness. And the reason they do this, is because they have no ideal of the Righteousness of God.
Why? Because they have "No" Standard to compare themselves to.
It’s like looking a white horse grazing in the green grass and noticing how white and clean it looks, until it starts to snow.
And then after the snow fall’s looking again, and noticed how dirty the horse looked now, against the white snow.
It’s the same horse, so why the different?
There a different, because there’s a different background.
So, when humanity compares itself to man’s standards, we come up reasonably clean. Yes! I think I’m a good person."
There are people in the world if we were to compare ourselves to them, we would come up white as snow. Take for example Hitler, or Charles Mansion. If we compared ourselves to them, we would come out looking white as pure snow.
However, when we have the snowy white "Righteousness" of God’s Laws as the backdrop, then suddenly we can see ourselves as we really are. This is the purpose of the Law.
Spirituality, which is the essence of the Law, should be unsparingly applied to the conscious, until the self-righteousness is destroyed. Until we stand speechless, self-condemned, before a Holy God.
Thou shalt not kill.
Now, you would think this is "one" Commandment, the majority of us would be safe from?
However, in 1 John 3:15 we read… Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
In this Commandment, we have a great look into the "Spiritual Nature" or the "Spiritual Essence" of God's Law!
The "Spiritual Essence" of God's Law goes deeper than the letter of the Law, or what the Law says, at face value.
For the Spiritual Essence of God's Law reaches down into the depth of the heart of mankind! Because it is in the "Heart" of man, from which, is the source, of which, the fruits of sin are produced.
Now, if you was to conspire to assassinate the President of the
United States, just conspire, to do it, or tell someone, you're
thinking of doing it. You would find yourself, being sent away to
prison for a long time!
However, God's Law goes further than conspiracy!
The Spiritual Essence of God's Law goes to the "Source" of Intent!
For the Spiritual Essence of God's Law says, if you just have the
desire to kill someone, it's the same as doing it! Jesus says in
Matthew 5:21-22, Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time,
Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of
the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:
Which takes me to a story I heard from a Minister, which reveal to him, and to me, after hearing him, the severity of the Law.
He was driving down the street looking for a particular photo shop. He had some negatives he needed to get developed. As he continued down the road, he noticed up a head the shop he was looking for. But, it was on the opposite side of the road. As he continued moving closer, he realized, that to get to the other side, he would have to drive back around the block. Then he saw an opening between the south bound side, he was in, and the north bound side. But he would have to ver across to the north bound side at an angle to enter. Which, with no vehicle in sight that he could see, he took this route. But, just as he pulled in, he saw a law enforcement vehicle, and the Officer inside saw him. He then continued on to the photo shop, expecting the Officer to follow him. But he didn’t. He thought to himself, the officer was busy and didn’t have time for him. But, just in case he quickly parked his vehicle, garbed his negatives and quickly ran off in the photo shop to conduct his business. Thinking to himself, that he was a Christian and shouldn’t be running from the law. But, upon departing from the building, he saw the Officer, standing beside his vehicle, patiently waiting. It was then he realized the officer knew he wasn’t going no where, and knew he would be back. As he approached the Officer, he asked to see his driver license. He removed his license, and handed them to him. Then the Officer looked at him saying… Have you got any excuse for going the wrong way up a one way street? The Minister then thought to himself, going the wrong way, up a one way street? I just cut across the corner!
It was then that he realized, as far as the law was concerned, the "angle" doesn’t matter! That’s how the law objectively saw his transgression! And in his mind he had three words. Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! Then he looked at the Officer and replied, Officer, I have no excuse whatsoever. The Officer looks down at his license, and looked back at him saying. Well there wasn’t no harm done, and I don’t think you will do it again. He then handed him back his license, turned around and walked off. And he thought to himself, that was close, that was a serious traffic violation, according to the law! It was then the Minister realized, the Officer had in his discretion, within his authority, the option to issue judgment or mercy! But, the Officer chose Mercy!
You know what played a big part in his decision? It was what came out of the Ministers mouth! He wasn’t confrontational with the Officer. He didn’t say to the Officer, there’s people out there worst than I! Am not a bad driver! If he had done this, the Officer would have throw the book at him, because he would have seen he wasn’t truly sorrow! So when he said… No excuse whatsoever, he could see his mouth was stopped, he could see he was contrite. In his heart he was saying to the Officer, be merciful to me a transgressor. Because of contrition, the Officer chose to give him mercy instead of judgment.
This is the Essence of God's. Its doesnt take into consideration the angel of transgression. If you break it in one point its the same as breaking them all!
All that God's law could do, was to lead mankind to calvary, and no futher. It is man that puts degrees on sin, and not God.

In Matthew 5:21-28, Jesus equates committing adultery with having lust in your heart, and committing murder with having hatred in your heart. However, this does not mean the sins are equal. What Jesus was trying to get across to the Pharisees was that it is still sin even if you only think about or want to do the act. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day taught people that it was okay to think about anything you wanted to, as long as you did not act on those desires. Jesus is forcing them to realize that God judges a person’s thoughts as well as their actions. Jesus proclaimed that our actions are the results of what is in our hearts (Matthew 12:34).
So, although Jesus said that lust and adultery are both sins – that does not mean they are equal. It is much worse to actually murder a person than it is to simply hate them – even though they are both sinful in God’s sight. There are degrees to sin. Some sins are worse than others. At the same time, in regards to both eternal consequences and salvation, all sins are the same. Each and every sin will lead to eternal condemnation (Romans 6:23). All sin, no matter how “small,” is against an infinite and eternal God, and is therefore worthy of an infinite and eternal penalty. Further, this is no sin too “big” that God cannot forgive it. Jesus died to pay the penalty for sin (1 John 2:2). Jesus died for ALL of our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Are all sins equal to God? Yes and no. In severity? Yes. In penalty? No. In forgivability? Yes.
