call your parents in the meantime search the house

I would wait a little while longer before worrying. Maybe he just forget about the note. After that, if he is still not home or called, call all of his friends that you can think of and check with the neighbors to see if they saw anything. Even though the police can't take an official report yet, check with them and see if they know anything or can keep an eye out.

my friend has run away a few times...has he had a fight with your parents lately? or anyone else?
since you have his cell, go through his recently outgoing and incoming calls. call his friends, or any other numbers that don't look familiar.
is there anything significant missing from his room?

If he's not home soon, call the police and talk with someone for advice. Hope he comes home soon, it's so scary these days.

check with the neighbors, check other rooms, maybe he's asleep somewhere or fell and konked himself out, did he go bike riding?
