The jews expected a messiah that would repel the Romans. When they heard that Jesus was born and the stories that followed, they assumed he would be the one to do so. Also the coming of Jesus re-wrote alot of the old testament.

There were no Jews at the time of Christ and Jesus was the name that was inscribed on the two crosses of the two thieves who were crucified after Christ was set free.
The influence that the Two Thieves Jesus had on those referred to as Jews in the Bible is that they (Jews) lost the promised land for breach of the Sabbath by having the thieves crucified on the Sabbath.
The Twelve Tribes of Israel, among which was the Tribe of Judah, became one people and were known as Yahuudi from the days of Musa (Moses) and are still known as Yahuudi today.
Jews are a part of Roman Hoax of the crucifixion, as well as the Bible and Christianity and Jesus.

A many fact few people want to realize, Jesus was a Jew and many of the original followers of Jesus still considered themselves Jews. However, those who call themselves Christians, meaning followers of Christ, have the many views in common with Jews because they both believe in the Old Testement. To directly answer your question, Jesus (Christ) converted Jews, though many do not believe he knew he was starting a new religion. If you want more info, email me.

in one word. Death
The birth of Christianity that was developed by Paul brought an inbreed Jewish hatred that manifested itself when the Christians became the official religion of Rome.
Almost immediately this brought about laws of all sorts against Jews and a precedent for the thousands (yes thousands) of deportations, mass executions, blood libes, and restrictions which accumulated in the Holocaust. Which were all part of Jewish life under Christianity for the past 1700 years.

It caused them centuries of terrible, unspeakable persecution, because the followers of Jesus came to hate the Jewish people simply because the Jews searched in their scriptures and didn't find any reason to believe that Jesus fulfilled their own Scripture's Messianic Prophecies.
