Well, I haven't heard this nor do I know who Stephen Fry is. Further, did he have any documents, etc. to back up his claim? I'm surprised that this would be the case. Nonetheless, it is their money so they are able to set the conditions for it's use. I believe he is referring to Africa and the AIDS situation over there. Catholic hospitals have other means of funding and are not dependent on money from the Church. Most AIDS agencies are governmental and, therefore, do not get funding from the Church. Yes, as a teacher, I agree that you shouldn't use anyone in a paper if his/her assertions don't come with statistics to back what they say up. It's bad research.

One of the things that makes this country so great is freedom of religion. I'm not a Catholic and I do not ever want to see the laws of your church legislated. No one should live under religious oppression and that is what legislated religious laws represent. This country has no national religion. Thank goodness for that!

No. Using contraception when one does not want any more children is sensible. Say a man and a women have 3 children and cannot afford another one. Bringing that fourth child into the world is an act of cruelty.

Probably because they don't understand that chldren are a gift from God and one of life's greatest blessings, and they've been fooled into thinking that working for some big corporation, making a lot of money, and paying a lot of taxes is better than nurturing their own flesh and blood.
They also probably don't know that most birth control pills actually cause "silent abortions" and that they are likely responsible for the deaths of numerous sons and daughters.
And perhaps they don't realize that birth control pills cause fatal blood clots and cancer, while condoms still fail at the rate of almost 50%, so they also fail to do what they were intended to.
The hierarchy of the church was also remiss during the '60's and '70's when they failed to promptly answer the challenge of the newly developed and seemingly benign birth control pill.

in case you didn't know it, not all of the usa is catholic and the usa, great country that it is, is not a theocracy and allows for freedom of religion, and freedom not to follow a religion. in case you didn't know it, that is precisely what makes our nation great, and what makes theocracies like afghanistan not so great. the reason people use contraception is so they don't have unwanted babies so that the catholic church has one less in the fold. it's self-serving for the church to demand this, but you have the right to follow this thinking if you wish, or not follow it--in this great nation of ours. people like you are dangerous, in case you didn't know it.

Well then hon they better tighten up support payments too.
I'm still wondering where that 'law' came from. I can see someone saying abortion is wrong, but contraception... I don't understand.
It just seems to be another way for the Catholic church to control women's lives and squash their rights and independance. 'Keep 'em barefoot and pregnant' so to speak.

The Pope wouldn't know wrong if it bit him on the ***.
It is a terrible irony that the people that are most in need of contraception are the ones that refuse to use it.

Because as with so many things of a sexual nature, the Catholic Church is in the wrong about this.

If your with one person and your both faithfull and you want and can afford a truck load of kids thats fine. But if your haveing sex and dont want kids and dont wanna catch any STD'S and if you have a brain of course you use contraception. Just because something works for you dont mean its gonna work for everyone. I have read some of your questions and you clearly have an axe to grind with everyone who is non Christean and non American.
