If you're looking for an alternative to peace corps, I have some friends who have volunteered through one of the organizations listed below (see the links) and I will be doing the same in the following year. Many people choose another organization instead of the peace corps because they like having a wider selection of time frames to help (you can volunteer for as little as two weeks) and some find the support of these other organizations better than that of the peace corps. I would do some research through all of them and see what you like best.

You can search for volunteer opportunities based upon area/geography/country and/or what type of work you would like to do: humanities, teaching, working with animals, the arts, etc... you can also choose itineraries from 2 weeks to a few years. You must remember that is it not free to volunteer, every volunteer organization has fees (they provide housing, support, food and classes for their volunteers, etc), so be sure to check these out too- the organizations and/or expeditions can vary widely with costs.

I hope this helps! good luck!

Being Canadian, I didn't exactly do Peace Corps, but I spent my third year of my undergraduate in Ecuador, South America. I studied for 5 months and worked with street children for three months. It was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I learned so much and I think it made me much more open-minded. It wasn't always easy, but I'm so glad that I did it.

While I was in Ecuador, I met many other volunteers, some from the Peace Corps. Reaction of the Peace Corps volunteers seemed to be mixed. Some liked it;. others told me they didn't feel they got enough support. You might love the Peace Corps, but don't neglect to check out other non-profit agencies too. You might also have a good experience with a religiously-based or other volunteer agency. I wish you the very best!

You had been fast to say that it occurs within the U.S. That is bullcrap if I ever heard it. That handiest occurs to an overly small percenatge of men and women. True, many men and women all over the world toss their mom and dad within the nursing properties. But for plenty of it's not an convenient chioce. They can furnish the care many men and women are not able and untrained to do. As one health care professional informed me, it is just occurred inside the final one hundred years that men and women have began to are living goodbye. There isn't adequate information to finish why Alzhemier's & dimentia arise. They are operating on it. You additionally failed to say that there are aged men and women who cross into retirement properties via option. You appear to be an overly intelligent & being concerned character. Don't permit different peoples offerings be your hindrance. Worry extra approximately what you're doing as an alternative than what different men and women are doing and I can guarantee you that you are going to be a larger character. By the best way, I neither think in God, the Bible, & absolutely now not that roll of bathroom paper referred to as the Quran to grasp what's correct and what's incorrect. I was once born with a way of correct and incorrect and I do not want that crap to inform me what to do.
