Of course they were bad parents, but it was a movie. Where would the movie had gone if they discovered he was missing before they left the house. Same as the second Home alone. Don't you think any normal person would have learned their lesson the first time around? I'm sure they could have called a neighbor to look after him until they could get back. But again, it was a movie, if it was real, the parents would have been arrested for neglect.

Each child is different thus there isn't any set rules if the parents depicted in the movie Home Alone is an good example. You are correct to say that leaving kids that age alone at home is not right let alone not realising they are not with them. However, please be reminded that the storyline is only but a movie. No one should take movies seriously. Its created to gardner audiences. Generally, in real life, I don't think any parents wouldn't have realised that their childrens are missing. Happy parenting!

I love that movie!
Although, this is just a movie. Too many things like that happen in real life, and it is bad parenting. Parents need to keep up with their kids more. You "make a list, and make sure everyone is there", or something. It's sad when this happens in real life.

Of course it was bad parenting! I keep tabs on my children everywhere I go. My husband still counts heads everytime we get in the van. I'd never leave my children in coach to torment other passengers. Its a movie, its just a movie.

I would not look to this movie for parenting advice except this one nugget: Buy your adolecent son a TalkBoy - he'll love it!
"Hi kids, we're home early!"...."Stop drooling on me!" [ahhhh...]
But really, who is the worse parent here, Macauly's fake parents in the movie that left him home alone, or his real parents that let him sleep over at Michael Jackson's house all the time?
