With my two year old daughter, we left her naked,(it made it easier for her to just run over and sit down and go), during the day, and put her potty chair in the living room. Once she understood the concept we moved the chair right outside the living room. Eventually, within I'd say a month, we had her potty chair in the bathroom. Then we worked on keeping her panties on. We started when she was about 19-20 months old and she is now 27 months and fully potty trained.

Don't force it. I had melt down with my 1st because she was not ready. With my 2nd, she lead us...much easier. We picked out "pretty panties" to wear, once she was really interested. When she would go she got a stamp of Barney on her hand to show everyone. We did have a special present for when she did everything in the potty. At night, we still used pull ups until she was dry for a long time. Good luck and don't force anything...it will come.

Bribes work well. Get little candies (m&ms, skittles, whatever they like.) Tell them they can have one everytime they tell you when they have to go and succesfully do so.

Also, whenever they have an accident make them clean it up themselves then practice 10 times in a row (practice means have them go back to the room they had accident in and run to the potty, pull down pants get on toilet, get off pull pants back up 10 times in a row.) Most "accidents" are just from kids being lazy or too caught up in playing to stop and go to the bathroom, so they HATE the time it takes to practice and it works!

Oh, and I agree that the kiddo has to be ready, if you try before child is ready, you both will just end up in tears!
