foot and a tear in the other foot? I was playing a game of tackle football with some guys at the park and I injured my foot. I went to the doctor and he told me I had a plantar fascia tear. I have been doing streching, icing, heat massage.. everything I can't think of but the pain is still pretty intense most of the time. Sometimes my foot just throbs and aches. I have recently started feeling similar pains in my left foot as well but not nearly as bad. What can I do? The doctors I go to all seem like complete idiots. I have to go to Veteran's Affairs and not the regular hospital. My foot was injured by getting tackled. I think someone landed on the back of my foot. This happened the middle of June and it's the middle of Dec now. Is there anything I can do? Can I request surgery? What can I do to decrease the pain?

You did not state how the doctor knew there was a tear, I would imagine you had some sort of advanced imaging like an MRI to see this, if not then it is just a guess on the doctors part. The plantar fascia is a band of connective tissue that runs the length of the bottom or the plantar surface of the foot. This tissue is not unlike a tendon and if it is torn it will not come together and heal, like a torn tendon it must be surgically repaired. This may be the reason that you are in so much pain after all this time. The first thing I would do is to make sure of the diagnosis, and then if it is torn, find out what surgical options are open to you. I believe that many of the doctors you see are idiots, many may have graduated at the bottom of their medical school classes, try to find one that is competent.

well Bluekitty, sounds like a real bummer. I would get a second opinion on prognosis. Surely you can find a dr that will discuss the possible alleviation of this crap via surgery and what it will take to be rid of it forever. No need for a kitten to go through life suffering with this crap. I would not stop looking around the medical community though until I definitely found an answer. Don't just take one doctor's word for "no treatment". Visit them all if you have to but do not give up. There IS a treatment out there and you will find it. I promise.

I live with pain. Daily. Surgery and not a good result so, that may not always be the right way to go. Use the ice, then the heat. I also take advil daily, two to three times a day. I take three of the over the counter to equal RX strength. It helps a lot. If you are overweight, loose it..that will help a lot. The other thing that may help is what you wear on your feet. Wear a good sneaker, like NB or I can only wear Sketchers. Go try on all of them and spend the money. They last a long time and are washable too. I have a pair here for 4 yrs. So, it is worth it to help feel better. I wear Birkenstock in summer and whenever I can with socks. They are a Godsend. So, QVC has the best prices and they do have them for men. Worth the money too. It's been a long time and the healing has happened, all that will. So, you now have to learn to live with it or have surgery, and live with the outcome. Get to a specialist, then have the tests done and get their advice before making a decision. Other than that you may just have to try therapy at home. I do a lot of my own. Use hot epsom salt soaks too. Don't stand for long periods when you don't have to. Stick to your healthy eating habits and don't put on weight, don't limit food just make good choices to stay healthy. Try analgesic rubs, aspercreme is my favorite. Put a sponge under your feet at night. Cut up a matress pad and cover with pillow case and use it to make your feet comfortable at night. Do what you have to do to make yourself feel better. As we get older, old wounds start to plague us lol. So, we have to take the steps to feel as good as possible. Arthritis will go to the weakest spots and hurt there first. Sorry. I do wish you luck and love coming your way.

If your diagnosis is correct I did see on line one day some kind of an arch support with velcro that is supposed to hold it up in one place. I cannot remember the name but if you type in the word "plantar fascitis" or "arch pain" it will take you to some website that sells that type of bandage. I hope you can find a solution quickly as that will wear you down! Be careful if you are using a temporary solution of ace bandages and white bandage tape to hold it up in place- not to wrap it so tight as to cause swelling on your foot.
