Property taxes are officially called Ad Valorem taxes. There are property taxes on Real Estate and on Personal Property. In Texas, for many years, Personal Property taxes were assessed on Automobiles, but often the County Tax Collector made little or no effort to collect it. Now only cars owned by businesses are usually taxed. There is an 'intangibles' tax on some things, I seem to recall that it was generally on oil companies who had leases and production in the County. http://wwwtaxman.blogspot.com

Taxes placed upon any real estate property which you may own, either fully, or in partnership with another, by the city or town in which the property is located. It is usually predicated upon the value per thousand dollars of the property. Generally the evaluation is only about eighty percent of the real value of the property.
