my doctor has prescribed ambien to treat my chronic insomnia. i'm ready to get some good sleep, but have heard it can cause some serious side effects (sleepwalking, visual and auditory hallucinations). i want to be sure the benefits are worth it and am curious as to how many people end up experiencing these side effects...

Yes.
It works terriific, you fall asleep in about 20 minutes, and it's gone by morning so you wake up felling fine.
It worked great with me (but I had to take 2) - and I never had any side effects.

When you get your prescription, ask the pharmacist for the full leaflet that comes on every bottle (of 100).
While some of it is rather technical, it provides good data on the percentage and number of occurrences in a test groups, and what could be definitely attributable and what was just chance.

Heck. You should be able to get it from the Ambien web site.

Oh and who did you hear about the side effects from - your doctor? (Ya never know, could've been answers.)

I have taken Ambien in the past, and am currently taking Ambien CR. I have never had any bad side effects from either one. The only problem I had was when I stopped taking the Ambien I had to do it very slowly so as not to cause too much of a shock to my system. I now take the Ambien CR because I just can't get to sleep without it. All medicines affect each person differently. I say go for it. Not getting enough sleep can be just a detrimental to you, if not more so.l

I've heard of a a slight tremor in the left hand but this is not the same for everyone as every ones different and can react differently. Your psychiatrist would be the best person to ask x

It's worth it if it works for you, and not worth it if it doesn't. The only way to know is if you try. Do you have someone around who can stop you if you get up?

I believe all those side-effects are temporary.

I get visual hallucinations but just ignore them and have no long term effects
