My Muslim friends and I were discussing this issue, and they told me they wouldn't feel comfortable "watering down" Christmas with a generic term like "Happy Holidays." When they celebrate Eid, they don't want people to avoid saying the name. Muslims believe that Jesus existed as a prophet, so they respect and enjoy the Christmas tradition and what is considered to be the birth of a figure in the Qur'an. Atheists celebrate Christmas too, no? You wouldn't hesitate sending them a card.

Not at all :) It's totally cool, I'm sure they're gonna be happy.
We Muslims always get Christmas cards.
I love collecting Christmas cards; they look really pretty and convey the warm wishes from the hearts of the senders. Religion doesn't make any barriers here. Go on, send it!

If he's a close-ish friend who can take a joke, I don't see why you shouldn't. Maybe you could add something like, "I know you don't celebrate the holiday, but I thought you would get a kick out of this card." if you're not sure how he'd take it.

my sister worked w/a guy
who grumbled that no one in the office ever acknowledged
the religious holidays HE celebrated
so why should he be burdened w/THEIR traditions?
(cards/gifts/parties/decorations)
she appologized and pointed out that he was the first person of that particular faith that any of them had ever been so intimately involved w/, and that none of them had even realized one of his faith's important days had recently passed.
everyone agreed to try to be more aware of each other's customs, and the fellow said he'd try to be more open and sharing--which was a major concession for him, because he really struggled w/the idea of treating women as equals...even in the workplace
why don't you just ask your friend
right out?
merry christmas.

I think he would get a kick out of it.
You know your friend more than any of us do, so if you think he'd have no problem with it then go for it!
