Yes, grand prize is better than first, and there's usually only one grand prize, while there may be several first prizes, even more second prizes, etc. Congrats on winning first prize! You should give us a link to the picture you took.

usually its the same thing first is the grand prize and if its a photo contest it makes sense the grand prize is a camera so you can take more photos
