i need to varnish a kitchen bench, which type should i use i want it to be glossy though durable?

The brand is not generally a problem. I use a high quality product like Sherwin Williams and ask for a Polyurethane Product in a glossy finish. They will gladly help you with any questions at the sales counter. Have fun!
