i've unplugged the wires to the fuel sending unit, and the gauge went to empty. is the sending unit itself bad? what else could it be?

Could be the sending unit. BUT, It could be a short to ground. Take a multimeter to the wires. Check for continuity to ground on all the wires... If the wires check out okay, then replace the sending unit.

No doubt the sending unit is bad, you do not have to take it to a nissian dealer, check with a junk yard for the sending unit, u will save about 200 bucks on the part, and find a good side mech to drop the tank and put a new one on, and since they have the tank down throw in a new pump, and replace the filter. You will save money down the road. If you are leasing it, just right your miles down, and dont stick any money into it LOL

Sounds like the sending unit is bad. There was also a recall on the fuel pumps do to exposed wires, this might be your problem.

HAY, look were the ground wier is and clean it if that don't work then your flot is stuck
