Sally said, "That isn't true."

Who is right and why?

Sally! ... the teacher wasn't clear with the statement.

If the teacher said that there is no single word which rhymes with orange, then the teacher would be right. However, since the teacher said that nothing and orange have a similar sounding end, then the teacher messed up. :)

The word nothing does not rhyme with orange. However, there does not exist a word in the English language that rhymes with the word orange. Technically, I'd say Sally is correct. It all boils down to emphasis.

They are both right. The teacher is correct, there is no rhyme for orange.Sally, who is being too literal, is technically correct.Nothing and orange do not rhyme. When I was in school, Sally would have gotten a severe time out for being a smart @ss.

The teacher is correct - because she is in charge of the class and she could not make a statement in front of the class unless she could prove its validity.

Neither is right. The student could be using a "fake" word or the the teacher could mean areal word.
