Got this gem from Charles Moore’s column in the UK Spectator (alas, it is only available to subscribers)

But there is one paragraph from his Sept. 9 column that all the world should see:

"It is illogical, but true, that when soldiers take part in campaigns which
are politically unpopular at home, their courage and dedication are
less appreciated. I am told by the father of a British soldier just
returned from six months in Iraq (and soon off to Afghanistan) that our
troops in Basra receive very few letters of support from people at
home, whereas their American counterparts have many letters, cards and
parcels from complete strangers. (my emphasis) He says that such messages cheer the
soldiers up tremendously. If you want to send something, write to
‘British Soldier, c/o G1 Branch’. In Iraq, the address is HQ
MultiNational Div (SE), Basra, BFPO 641. In Afghanistan, it is HQ
Helmand Province Task Force, Camp Bastion, BFPO 792.t"

Hope that helps and thanks for your support.

What a nice idea.

I'd hate it if members of the forces thought the British people were not proud of them

Our forces are underpaid, over-stretched, lacking the right kit & not appreciated enough. But they still give 100% and show that they're the best in the world.

I'm going to follow your lead & also write to them.

Good idea. Ask your local Town Hall. Perhaps you could email them. Good luck

I would just call, email these folks or your local Recruitment office in the UK.
