Yes, first eat more fibre but for this time and any time it's really bad. Get on the bed, get on all fours, push your knees up to your chin, as far as you can and put your butt up in the air as far as you can. Lie like this for a while, Relax, that is the key. Relax the butt area, and move it into a comfortable position. This will take a while. The gas has to rise, bringing it to the top, then it should ease out. You may even have to hold it open, know what I mean? I used to have to do this a lot, and my kids too when they were young. My daughter laughs about it but, it works!!! From now on you need to make sure you eat raw veggies, bran and whole grain breads and cereals and maybe some barley green from the health food store to get your bowles moving. Good luck. Let me know if it helps. You can e-mail me.
me again. yes, head on bed and the idea is to get the rump as high as possible and the intestines stretched out so the gas can move, so to be comfortable and get it in the air is how you do it, move around and find what works, what feels like it is making the gas move. Good luck.

They're starting to recommend that people with IBS, or IBS-like symptoms be tested for celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats). A lot of people with celiac were misdiagnosed as having IBS for years. (18 years for me). It takes an average of 11 years for a person with celiac to be diagnosed.
I used to have a lot of problems with gas, including back pain and major bloating. It was awful.
Here's a webpage by the National Institutes of Health on celiac -
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/
And another from the Mayo Clinic -
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/celiac-disease/DS00319
If that starts sounding familiar here are a couple of message boards for people with celiac and other gluten intolerances.
http://www.glutenfreeforum.com
http://www.celiacforums.com
You can also be intolerant to other common foods and get the symptoms you are describing. Soy, corn, eggs, yeast, dairy, etc. You may want to think about keeping a food/symptoms journal and see if you can identify the culprit(s).

I believe there's a yoga position called "the wind relieving position." Basically you get your bum in the air, and....relax?
