I need to write a birthday greeting for someone who's turning 50. I've met the person (it's a man) once, he's a dentist and has almost no sense of humor. He's also pretty straight-edge, so nothing overtly friendly would do. Other than "Have a very happy birthday" I have no idea what to write.

Any suggestions?

I like Susan's answer:

"Too bad he has no sense of humor. The analogies of gold fillings and gold being the color to mark 50 years would be fun to explore.

You could say he is 1/2 a centenarian!! You could review current event highlights over the 50 years of his life. Gee, he must have seen a lot in his lifetime!!"
