That is one direction to go with. Using less fossile fuel base transportation will help enviornment cleaner.

The question is how to encourage people to do so.

Either we put more taxes on gasoline for non-commericial user. There are plenty of people who are driving big trucks and SUV to work alone everyday. They should get penalized for that.

Another way is for SUV and big truck user to pay for higher registrations and renew fee for using and owning the vehicle.

Third way are incentives to change the engine to use something less polluting, like natual gas.

Thats part of the solution. We should be making mass transit and searching for alternative fuel sources a national priority. One easy thing we can all do right now to help the environment is to go vegetarian. This will help the earth more than reducing your driving. Our appetite for animal carcasses is doing more harm to the environment then an SUV can. If you eat meat and drive an SUV you are really screwing your children and grandchildren out of a healthy world!

The main problem with cars is the gas and oil, fossil fuels and nonrenewable energy, they use. Vehicles can be converted to electric power and use solar panels to charge the batteries. That technology is available right now. What has been the main obstacle to solar so far has been the high cost of the panels. But I know of a company that will rent the panels to a homeowner with no upfront investment. I think this idea could make solar easily available to about 50% of the homes in the US.
