The advantage of a single technique that is well trained compared to 100 techniques that are merely "collected" is like a comparison between advantage of diamond to coal.
If you can punch, and can only punch alone, but you punch like a lightning strike, it is 100 times more valuable than collecting 100 different martial art techniques that you can perform poorly.
Go to the deep of a single technique of your choice, it is bottomless.

Some of these guys are right in that it's all about what you want to do. If you want to learn how to fight, they're both good but the MMA school will give you a more comprehensive understanding of the fight game, from standing on down.
Boxing is advantageous in that its usually cheaper and its easier to learn one aspect of fighting then all of the aspects simultaneously, so you will be a better striker if you train boxing than you would if you put the same amount of time in MMA. But you can't compete with the multiple ranges that MMA allows you to learn.
If it was me, I'd tell you to check out both, take a few classes at both and then see how you feel about them. It's always the schools that matter more than the actual sport.

I've done both and I prefer boxing.
Much more intense workout programs. (At least where I was)
I guess it depends on why you are there. Are you there to learn self-defense? Or to stay in shape? The value of sport?
If you want to "fight", then I suggest the martial arts as "brawling" in a boxing ring usually gets the fight stopped.
I felt better, stronger as a boxer than I did in martial arts.

Martial arts all the way. There's more that you can do in martial arts and there are more ways of winning. Boxing is to narrow, there aren't that many things you can do in terms of tactics.
And it's also proven that proffessional boxers suffer more brain damage than anyone in MMA.

Martial arts, hands down! Boxing is OK, but it's a proven fact that the martial atrtist is far, far superior to the boxer!
