Karate would teach you how. I was a boxer for about five or six years then got into martial arts for another ten years, even though I never lost at boxing I got my butt kicked alot when I first got into martial arts because they were so fast and hit harder than any boxer I ever fought.
Speed comes from practice and confidence, I use speed to control my opponent with quick jabs to get them to cover up and lose eye contact with me. Then I use power with a hook shot they never see coming.
I was taught how to hit harder by imagining my fist not making contact til it hit the inside of the opposite side of the their head or body that I was hitting. So it's basically like your trying to slam your fist all the way through them.

You can increase your punching power and speed by training with weights on the wrist and using the speed bag and jump rope. Lifting weights is not usually good for boxers as it tends to effect speed.

Try hitting a heavy bag in this manner. It worked very well for me in Kickboxing. My ex-brother in-law taught me this. He's the world champion and international champion in his weight division. His ring name is Tim Bring the pain Lane. He was written about in FC Fighter.coms magazine.
Keep your arms loose. When you throw your punch flick your arm in the direction of your target. Almost like you would if you were to slap some one. One of the biggest mistakes fighters make is to tense up their arm when throwing the punch. That takes alot of the speed out of it. When you flick your arm you do it in a quick relaxed fashion and deliver the punch much quicker. Then 3 inches before you make contact with your target, That's when you tense up and don't stop your punch force till you've reached 6 inches behind your target.
In other words your punch will be delivered very fast then you tense up and lets say you were hitting him in the chest. Aim like your trying to make your fist go through his spine. Don't make your focal point be the skin you see. Your punches will devastate more if you punch in this manner.
Also at the moment of contact while you trying to punch through him release your hips in the direction of the target. If your right handed turn your right hip at the target at the moment of impact... If your left handed then turn your left hip toward the target at the moment of impact

Speedball works on all of that, works on your speed, aim, upper body strength.
Also trains your hand-eye coordination.
