Hi, I would have to say the majority of people here are in favor of the proactive route, but keep in mind that yes different things work for different people.Yes, the idea behind most acne meds is that it will initially cause a surge of acne, then it will dry out and start to clear with the results you are looking for. The system has different applications which you can choose to use. If you like here is a link to a site that carries the proactive system, it is ob the health and beauty page, there is also another derma site as well, the proactive link is about halfway down and they have options that will not cost an arm and a leg. check it out if you have a chance.

Well I for one have been using Proactive for about 2 years on and off. My skin goes from moderate to really bad depending on what is causing it. I believe that Proactive does work, yet it may not work for everyone, and it also depends WHY you are breaking out. Me for example, my first semester of college was sooo stressfull, I broke out like crazy! I was on Proactive before college, during, and after that year, yet during that first semester Proactive didnt seem to be working because of all the stress. But after my stressfull days were over, my face went back to normal.
But Proactive seems to be the only thing that works for me. Its the one thing that makes my skin feeling REALLY clean and treated. I can always feel the difference on my skin if I stop using it for a day or two. So yes you need to use it religiously... And don't expect a huge difference in a very short time. Many experts say you need to use ANY facial product for about 6 months to really see results, whether it be for acne, wrinkles, pores etc.
And to all these people saying that as soon you stop using it you break out... well OF COURSE you are going to break out! You must keep in mind that there is NO cure for acne, its something that is treated and hopefully in time goes away due to changes in hormones or genes etc.
So if you have only been breaking out for the past month, I'm assuming your acne isn't so serious... take care of it NOW before it gets worse.
IF you DO decide to use it... this is the way I suggest using it:
In the morning, wash your face with the cleanser. Instead of doing the other 2 steps, put moisturizer on your face instead since washing it will leave your skin dry. You can either purchase one from Proactive, or get one from Neutrogena (they have great ones for different skin types).
Then at night (or for a day where you won't be going anywhere) use all three steps. Its better if you dont use all three in the morning and night because 1. since you are just starting out, this can really dry out your skin (which can cause more breakouts)and you must let your skin get used to Proactive. and 2. If you use the lotion in the morning, it can leave your skin looking a little greasy after a while.
So I hope all this helped!
Good luck in your search for clear skin :)

Yes Proactiv work AT FIRST & it will stop working once you stop using it! You must keep using Proactiv for the rest of your life (which WILL make you bankrupt) in order to make the acne don't come back!! For some people, even if they keep using it, acne will come back! This time it's even WORST!!
Here's a sample testimonial I found..
"Unfortunately it didn’t last, after about 14 months of use, my acne suddenly re-appeared and this time, worse than it was before the use of Proactive!! I now use the DKR system! The price is insane, but as mentioned, if it works at keeping you clean"

No products on the market have the long term track record Carley's do.
I found a product that works A LOT better & a LOT CHEAPER than Proactiv & any other acne products!!! For proof, read their thousands reviews & feedbacks!! They have been selling their product like HOT cakes since October 1999!! Not sold in stores!!
If you're interested, email me for their website & eBay Store links,

GOOD LUCK!!

There are better options?
Yes it is celebrity endorsed...but do you really think those celebrities actually use this garbage on their own skin. I doubt it. If you really want beautiful skin you need to look at what nature has provided for us.
We dont need all of these chemicals and parabens. Our skin is the largest organ on our bodies. We best take care of it in a loving, caring way. If you treat your skin good, use gentle, quality products. You will be thankful now but even more thankful in 20 or 30 years down the road.
First off: I would suggest that you take a look at your diet. Remember, green leafy vegetables and fruits full of antioxidants are going to be your best bet. This will help to clean out your system and your skin will love it. Make sure you getting plenty of Omegas.
And please, dont touch your face with dirty hands. This is something that we ALL do. It doesnt take much to clog the pores.
What I would suggest is that if you are willing to put out the money for ProActive that you spend that money on the best available. The greatest products you can use are ones that are organic and natural. It is amazing the results you see from products that are full of powerful enzymes and antioxidants.
I am a Spa Therapist and work with all types of skin on a regular basis. I suggest that you see an esthetician in your area that uses a product called
Eminence Organics. It is 100% natural. And 100% effective. I honestly believe that it is a cure for so many people suffering with skin problems. Rather than the chemicals and nasty harsh products.
Or find a spa near you that sells it and pick up these products:
Eucalyptus Cleanser, Herbal Spot Serum, 8 Greens Phyto Masque, and (depending whether your skin is more to the oily/combination/dry side)
But either 8 Greens Whip, or Rosehip Whip Moisturizers.
You will be so happy you checked it out.
Good luck. I hope you find something that works for you. But remember ... what we put into our bodies comes out through our skin as well. So really have a look at your diet. Oh, and use a good toner. To keep skin balanced, keep pores tight, and infuse the skin with vitamins and minerals. I think your best bet would be the rosehip toner.

so far so good for me I have been using it about a week and a half. I don't have any new breakout since I started using the products and my breakouts that I had are clearing. The only thing that I am finding is my face is feeling kinda dry and I don't know if I should keep using it twice a day. Also alot of people on here have been saying it works for a couple weeks and then it stops working. I don't know we will see. I got a pamplet in the mail for proactiv all you do is pay for the shipping $5.95 and your first month is free here is the number I don't know if that offer is still good 1-888-767-4400

It might it might not. The problem is that our skin is all different and react differently to every product. You should use a product for about two weeks before determining if it will or won't work for you. When you get a paper cut on your finger how long does it take to heal? That is how long it should take a facial product to work on healing your skin. Also with acne products they tend to make the acne worse at first. This is normal and the reason is because it is pulling all the infection out of your skin. Be patient because nothing you use will work right away. Proactive worked for me for awhile and now I use some of the products I sell for myself. Hopefully you'll find what will work for you. Good luck!

Yes! It really does work you probably just aren't using it right. Here's how:
I use a makeup remover first then the cleaser. DONT srub your face with the cleasner, it will irritate it badly. Instead lightly just apply it to your skin all over for 1 to 2 minutes. Then i use the toner with a cotton ball all over. Wait 30 sec. put on the repairing lotion. The mask is used once or twice a week after the cleanser with slightly damp skin. Proactiv worked for me. If it doesn't for others they just aren't using it often enough or correctly. Also: it tells you to do the 3-step system twice a day. DONT! It will dry out your skin. Only use it before bed. Good luck.

I have tried it and it didn't work for me (especially for the price paid for it) I used it for several months. I have sensitive skin and it seemed to really dry me out (even when using the proactive moisturizer) and it made my face red at times. I think my skin couldn't handle the active ingredient (Benzoyl Peroxide). Also, step 3, the Repairing lotion, was a disaster. No matter how much I rubbed it (or how long I waited for it to dry on my skin) and washed my hands it would bleach my pillow case and dark clothing! Step one, the cleanser, did the same thing to my hand towels no matter how much I rinsed my face. So now I have a formerly Navy blue pillow case that has a pink tinge to it, some ruined shirts, and some formerly purple hand towels with pink splotches on them. If you have really sensitive skin, I would recommend going to a dermatologist, as that is the only thing that worked for me.

Yes, it really works. I had tried all kinds of products to try to clear my face. Then I finally tried proactiv and it worked and I've never used anything new since. You have to be real careful with the repair lotion or it can dry out your face.

I tried it and it worked a little for me, but after about two months it quit working. It depends on the person and in the commerical I think I saw that it only works on 9/10 people or something...it depends on what kind of skin you have. Mines very sensitive so, I either become immune to it or I have an allergic reaction to it.
