Dear Mr. L. Jesus:
In what other context would accepting OTHER origins be acceptable?
Hey! I tell everyone I'm Scottish, although both my parents were born in Nepal.
Even though I received a diploma in administration, I tell everybody I'm an electrical engineer.
I grew up on the other side of the tracks, but when asked I say the rich part of town.
Origins matter.
I have never understood why people who call themselves christian and know christmas is non-christian still merrily go along with the whole enchilada.
In what way are the christian?

I'm sorry if it comes off that way, and I'm sorry you feel that way. It's not about the holiday at all, or what time of year it takes place. We don't want to "hog" anything, and we understand the pagan part.

It's the concept past the celebration, past the time. And it's not just once a year. It's everyday that we should be celebrating Jesus, God's greatest gift to us, everyone, not just Christians.

Keep the holiday anytime, Jesus is worth so much more than a pile of presents, food, or Santa. It's too bad more people can't see that.

i don't do christmas.
my son knows that i love him every day of the year.
i do not require the worlds fake traditions to determine when to give gifts to those i love.
I grew up with these traditions and came to think that i was 'owed' gifts on birthdays and christmas.
I now have my own family tradition of enjoying life everyday of the year, thankful for health, shelter, and food.
I always do nice things for my wife and son throughout the year so that they know i love and appreciate them.

I would say nowadays Christmas is more pagan than Christian: santa claus, reindeer. If you look at all the Christmas cards in stores, barely any of them have any religious pictures on them at all.

Celebrating Christmas, even knowing it is pagan, is like picking up a candy that fell in the gutter; it may look like its ok, if you pick it up and clean it up a little, but its still from the gutter.

Really. "Trying to take christ out of christmas", he was never in there to start with! But I've never harbored any resentment towards christians celebrating pagan holidays, as long as they don't try to claim THEY invented them.

The birth of Christ does not have pagan origins.

Neither does the holiday that celebrates it.

True, the holiday originally appeared on the holiday near the same date on the calendar as a Roman pagan holiday -- but just because they come close to each other on the calendar doesn't mean that one has its origins in the other.

Proximity on the calendar doesn't imply "origins" or "stealing."

Don't know WHY you're so upset that it's now a Christian holiday. What difference does it make to you?

Don't care what the "origins" were. It's a Christian holiday now and has little or no connection to the "pagan origins".

Merry Christmas.

And, I suppose you have something against "Happy New Year"?

Wow, why are you worried about it? Just enjoy the holiday. You might get a day off from work or something.
