If would seem the church is used as an excuse. Cut down on the birth rate millions would be spared from starvation.

They could at least try the rhythm method. That is allowed. And it's free. Of course that would take some planning and work, but aren't they supposed to be smart and hard workers?

The Catholic Church tells these, usually uneducated, very poor people that they will go to Hell if they practice any type of birth control.
Also, being uneducated and poor, they don't have the means to get birth control even if they would use it.
Most of these women believe it's their duty to have as many kids as they can.

Ask the Pope why he would encourage his followers to have more children than they can afford to feed?
While you're at it, ask him why he allows his priests to frighten his followers by telling them that they are going to burn in hell if they practice birth control ??

They do practice birth control. If they could have multiple births each time they get knocked up, they would.

they are catholic ,remember, birth control is not on the table. They are much too laid back to do anything that serious to improve their standard of living .Besides a mexican has to prove his manhood by fathering lots of children.

Because they are religious people and probably don't have enough money to buy it. I think it also has something to do about the culture. That might be why they have large families. I heard that in Spanish 1, so I think that it could be the reason.

why do you assume all people from mexico have about 12 kids? that's like saying all American women preffer to practice abortions instead of safe sex. but let me humor you and say that's true. The reason that many do not practice birth control is probably the same reason many teenagers get pregnant. They really don't know what options are out there for women such as birth control and other form of contraceptives. They maybe know about condoms but we all know most guys won't wear one. And added to that factor is that yes many have strong ties to their family and church wich looks down on abortion. maybe if they knew more about the resources that were out there to help them then not only them but a lot of other people would benefit from that and the population of the world would be more controlled.

They have a strict religion and unlike other Catholics they do follow the church rules too often.
