Jesus' death was necessary to destroy the power of evil, as evil had gained legitimate control over the affairs of man, through Adam's sin.
Satan the devil was given the power of death, but with one qualification ... he had no right to take the life of a sinless, innocent man.
All humans are born sinners, so no naturally born man was qualified to redeem us.
That's why God sent his sinless and perfect son, made of woman, under the law, to become the sacrifice for our sins.
When Satan arranged the brutal execution of the sinless son of God, he committed a great crime, and was immediately judged for it by God.
All that Satan had gained from Adam's sin was taken away from him, and awarded to Jesus.
Jesus was raised from the dead, and was appointed the new head of all mankind.
Jesus granted mankind their freedom.
Now, with Jesus as the head of all humanity, and mankind free to repent of their sins, God is more than willing to forgive, and our redemption is truly at hand.
Since Jesus is true man, the merits of his life, death, and resurrection accrue to the benefit of all mankind.
And since Jesus is also true God, the grace he obtained for us by his sacrificial death is effective, super abundant, and everlasting.
See how simple that was?

You asked for it, here it comes.
First, you must understand that JESUS, not God the Father, was both God and man. It's hard to understand, but you have to get it to see the truth. He died the death of a man, a human, and suffered the pain of a human, but because he is also God, it is the only perfect atonement that could save us humans. A sacrifice of the noblest kind, if you get my drift. Human pain, but of Devine worth. I'd give an analogy here, but there's nothing that compares to that kind of love. This is why, two millenia later, it still counts. It was God's sacrifice, God's life; it was also human's sacrifice, human's pain. It's a tough truth, but that's what it is. Truth.
Second, you asked what the relevance is. Here, I can give an analogy. Picture a man about to jump off a bridge, about to commit suicide. People are screaming, "Don't do it! He can save you, don't do it! Don't kill yourself when you could live a wonderful life!" And then, out of nowhere, our God-man, the inexplainable Jesus, comes swooping out from behind, falls in front of the man as he jumps off, and dies saving the man's life. And then, the God-man lives again. Defying all rules of physics, he lives. That's what it's like. Hard to see still? The man is you, an unbeliever. The screaming people are us true Christians, trying to help you, but really unable to do so in the end. And of course, the incredible God-man is Jesus, the Savior of mankind.
Third, you asked why you should be impressed. Try reading Matt. 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, and John 19. Pretty impressive if you read the death of Jesus. Pretty darn painful, if you catch my drift. Don't think that Jesus couldn't feel it. Remember, he was man as well as God. He felt it more than you would, because he also felt the separation from his Father. And his love for his Father was 10000000....x deeper than man's love could ever be.
I hope that answers your question. If it doesn't, or if you have any more puzzlers, my e-mail you should use is Lyssacm@aol.com
God Bless.

This is actually pretty simple.
When talking about God, we're talking about the supernatural. Time and space do not exist in eternity. So, if you believe that God created us and we were originally meant for immoratilty with Him in Heaven, then you know that in order to be in heaven in the first place, you must be totally pure and holy, without sin.
Adam and Eve messed this up. Since then, we have all had to suffer because of this. In order to restore us to God, it required a perfect sacrifice - Jesus Christ. Why sacrifice? Nothing unclean, sinful, can survive in the presence of God. When our first parents sinned, it cut us off from Him. The consequence, the only perfect justice the remedy this sin, was our deaths. Our sinfulness makes us unfit for heaven, so therefore, unable to live in the presence of God's life, we die.
The sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God Himself, atoned for everything for all time. He was human, but He was also divine, and being divine - eternal - His sacrifice stands for past, present and future. This is why a 2000 year old death still stands for you and me, and will stand long after we are both dead.
I hope this helps. God bless.

Jesus is the son of God, yes.. but when he was born as a human, his knowledge of the father was gained through FAITH... he was given many gifts and did many great things..
Jesus is God as in we are a part of God too.. Jesus ascended into heaven and sits on the side of God and is an intercessor on our behalf.
Jesus DID Die...giving us salvation by his sacrifice... for three days... and while dead he went into the pit of hell and conquered sin and took the keys of death from the devil. He also freed the captives... On the 3rd day he was ressurected into a living flesh human being who then ascended into Heaven.
As far as relevance.. well think about the reverse.. if Jesus had not sacrificed his flesh being.. then we would forever be condemned in our own Sin.
The relevance is that Jesus sacrifice is eternal and will never be "too far in the past"" to matter.
Your simplifying God=Jesus WAY too much. We are all a "part of" God. We are created in HIS image. So was his son.. His son was a flesh being that was created and came to know the Lord, his Father in the same way we all do, through Faith. Yes, I believe Jesus had a choice to believe or not.. that is why the devil tempted Jesus and tried to make him believe that no one man could take on the sins of the world. He proved him wrong and you will be proven in err eventually too.. even through all your sarcasm.
Merry Christmas

It doesnt matter so much that He knew He would rise from the dead or that others may have suffered more, the point is, God, who never had to become a man at all... chose to so that He could go through what we go through, suffer like we do and we would know it. Before then someone could say to God "How do you know how I feel if you've never felt pain?" or any kind of suffering. Also... would it matter really how He chose to cover our sins so long as He did? What if payment for sin was paying $10... if God paid $10 should we not accept that payment because its not $1,000,000?? Would He have to suffer more for you to believe it was enough?

Spanky, you are right on. We could go on for a long time on this, but if your trying to deal with a closed minded non-believer, better to do it face to face. God gave His ONLY Son for us, all of us, if you believe or not, that's free will, but it's a done deal, that's how much God LOVES us. Jesus did not just die on the cross, He was tortured and beaten and with His blood we are saved, to live eternally with Him, all God asks of us is to believe, obey, have faith and trust Him. I'll get off of my soapbox now. L-dog, thank you, that was great and God Bless.

You seem to be well versed in the subject of Christianity, so you must know that FAITH is the evidence of things unseen.
Jesus is Lord and savior, He did die on the cross, He did, arise again after 3 days, and He did ascend into heaven, and He is coming back for his children.
Prayer is coming your way.

Think about this, We Christians believe the Holy Bible to be God's word. In the book of John the first chapter it reads, " In the biginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made, that was made.
verse 10 reads," He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
The Word is Jesus Christ, He was in the beginning with God, and He made the world, and everything that was made.
So Jesus Christ according to the Bible was here in the beginning with God the Father making everything, the earth, all the stars, and planets, and He even made Adam and Eve. You've heard what they did.
God made a plan to bring mankind back into followship with Him. That plan was to send his only begotten Son Jesus. To die for all mankind. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jesus left His throne in Heaven where he set as King of everything. He made everything, He owened everything. He could have said no, just wipe them out, but because he loved us so much he left Heaven, to be beaten, kicked, spit on, and die by being nailed to a cross.
He paid the price for your sins, he didn't have to, but he did. And you have a choice, come to him and get life, or die with all who choose to.
Are you so sure that there is no God? Have you spent hours and hours studying the Bible? Here you have the Creator of everything offering to make you a son, and even let you set in his throne. He is offering you eternal life in a new body that will never grow old
Revelation 3:20 Ever read it? Jesus says," Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, IF thou seek him with all thy heart and all thy soul.
Jer. 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.
Have you searched for God with all your heart, and all your soul?
It is your life, no one else's, will you buy into the lie that there is no God? What would you do if you could live forever? I can't begin to imagine what we will be doing a billion years from now, and are you betting you know all the answers?
As a Christian I have got to give you this warning, Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Rev.21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Think about it.

okay, Jesus was God's only begotten son and he came to die for the world so we might be free to have an eternity in heaven, even though he is the son of God he was still put on this earth as a human being so all the pain still existed for him, and also we should praise God everyday because imagine it this way, if you had a son who died for the betterment of mankind even if you knew he was coming back wouldn't you still grieve, that and have people not care?...or even not believe!?..but that's just the way I see it, you can take it or leave it
