Hello valhalla

First thing is you must read the rules and learn the ettequette of the game. its very important.

Then go to work on your short game , chipping and putting. These are the easiest and most important aspects of the game. Many strokes can be cut off with good chipping and putting. Shucks, even the pros dont hit all the greens in regulation, but they do work hard on getting up and down.

Big drives are great but short putts are even better.

The best way is to get a series of lessons from a PGA pro. For around $200 and 6 lessons he or she would be able to set you on a path of learning about the game and what it takes to play it and enjoy it.

This is a game that is a journey through life...if you become serious about it and study what happens each time you strike the ball it will be addictive. I have been playing for over 50 years and have been as low as a 2 handicap and currently play to a 6 (getting older is not bad either) the tools of golf...clubs etc are so much better than when I began. Enjoy every minute of this fabulous lifetime game.

1>Most importantly is keep your swing slow and controlled, like Ernie Els. Don't try and smack it! hit at about 80%

2>Buy a golf magazine, they have loads of tips from the professionals

3>practise as often as possible. This can sometimes feel like a bit of a chore in the winter when you're getting up and its dark and freezing but if stop playing throughout the winter months, you're back to square 1 come the spring.

4>Go the driving range and work on your problems. Everyone has them, even the pros. Swing the club, analyse what you're doing wrong or get someone else to and work at it.

Its not all fun and games ya know!!! good luck :)

Go out and enjoy yourself. it is a game where you are getting good exercise and fresh air. Have some craic with your playing partners and dont take the game seriously. If you have a good score at the end that is a bonus. cheaters are only cheating themselves into thinking they are better than they really are . you do not cheat yourself and it is the easiest way to lose friends.
Remember if you are an 18 handicapper you are allowed 18 bad shots during a round. So don't lose the head when you hit one bad shot.as that will throw your game completely off.
As I said at the start GO OUT AND ENJOY YOURSELF/////////

Well my Friend if your really inters-ted in this game of golf again start from scratch. Make sure your grip is correct I cant explain in Great detail about the grip because its very complicated but for starter make sure both of your hands are equal meaning the same on the club in other words both hands are aligned together
in unison. The other basics are very explainable stay in balance
to do this set up to the ball slightly bend your nees and make a swing while staying in balance. bending your knees allows you to coil your backswing and turn your hips without swaying off the ball. stay aligned make sure your feet knees shoulders are aimed to your target they can very a bit just like your grip but make sure the are all pretty even slightly open or closed. take small swings with longer clubs on the driving range take a 5 iron and make smooth swings to groove swing and get a feel
of what your swing is about golf takes years to master start with the basics hit balls on the range stay in ba;lance groove your swing. I'm not a beginner and i still do this because this is what you have to do to start the game hit solid shots and work your way up to full shots. The bottom line if your out of balance you hit bad shots.

Get Ben Hogan's book "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf." Great book, and it builds the swing up from the start, which is the grip, the most important, but most overlooked aspect of the swing.

golfing is a superb activity. It gets you out in the sparkling air and onto venues that would tutor nature at it particularly is terrific. Taking some training from a consultant is a large thank you to initiate. a physically powerful professional won't in simple terms tutor you the actual fundamentals of the sport, yet additionally the psychological components to recollect whilst enjoying. So, choose for it! and would you appreciate it as much as I continually did.

If you can join your local golf academy. If not as you go round the course if you are not on the green in 5 shots pick up your ball and carry it and drop it on the edge of the green. This will encourage you to hit your tee and fairway shots longer and straighter. This tip was given to me when i started playing just over 5 yrs ago. It worked and aided my enjoyment in those early days.

First purchase a good set of golf clubs & practise balls & head for the driving range. Next, spend some extra $ & obtain a few golf lessons!

Forget about distance and concentrate your driving range practice to keeping the ball in play. The fastest way to bring down your scores is to spend most of your available practice time trying to improve your putting and chipping.
