"What did you use to do when you felt afraid?"
The first do is incorrect. "Did" is correct because you're asking what a person did in the past.

Also, it should be "an English sentence" because E is a vowel and you always use "an" with vowel sounds/letters.

Firstly it's...'correct AN English sentence.' Any word beginning with a vowel, a,e,i,o,u, takes an, not A. Try saying what you wrote and you'll find it doesn't work.
Now, your sentence. It should be, 'What did you used to do when you felt afraid?' You are in the past tense and 'do you use' is present tense because of the 'do.' In the past tense we say, 'did.'
I do, you do, he does, we do, you do, they do. Past tense is, I did, you did, he did, we did, you did, they did. Okay? But actually, if you are being completely, gramatically correct, you'd have to say, 'What used you to do when you felt afraid?' but Im not sure I can tell you why. As a teacher of English and a native English speaker, I know I'm right

The correct answer is : What did you use to do when you felt afraid.

Reasons
1) You asked about a past action because of the word 'felt', therefore you should use 'did' instead of 'do'
2) The word 'use' is a tricky word because many people confuse 'use' with 'used'.

We use the word 'used to' when we are trying to indicate a process that we have gotten accustomed to.
For example: I got used to the idea of John washing his hands in between meals.

We use the word 'use' when we are forming a question(REGARDLESS OF TENSES).
For example:
What did you use to do when you felt afraid?

To begin with, 'use to do' on its own indicates a past action. But sometimes we also use the phrase 'used to do' when it's not a question.
For example:
I used to do this really well!

Words such as 'to', 'do', 'did', 'shall', 'shalt', 'may', 'might', 'can', 'could', 'will' and 'would' are always followed by a verb in the simple present tense.

Correct aN English sentence?

First off, I think that the title of the question "Correct a English sentence?" was intended to be mispelled... That's my take on the situation...

Secondly, I wont bother correcting the sentence... Im not sure what it is you're trying to ask in that question-sentence that is grammatically incorrect.

However, unable to resist, I would say that changing "do" to "did" would seem to be the most obvious answer...

What do you use to do when you felt afraid?
should be:
What did you used to do when you felt afraid?

Did and used are past tense as is felt, which is what this sentence is supposed to be, unless you want:

What do you do when you feel afraid?

Which is present tense.

What do you use when you feel afraid?
What do you feel when you are afraid?
What do you do when you are afraid?
What did you use to do when you felt afraid?

Can you use your sentence in a sentence so I know which question you were trying to ask?

There are past and present in the same question.
There is more then one wrong word in this question depending on which question you were asking.

"What do you use when you feel afraid?"

You need to have verb agreement for both clauses. In the first clause, "What do you use", you used the present tense. In the second clause, "When you felt afraid", you used the past tense. The tenses must be the same for the whole sentence.

"Correct aN Enlish sentence"

"What DID you use to do when you felt afraid?"

Sorry to all those who say 'use' should be 'used' - but you're wrong! "Use" is a verb on its own, yes. But here it is part of the 'past tense' description - "use to do", not a verb in its own right. "You" relates only to 'did' in the question.

Which is not to say the correct reply would need to be "I USED to run to my Mummy!", or whatever.

First of all, it would be "Correct an English sentence." (you must use an when the following word starts with a vowel)

What do you do when you feel frightened?
When you feel afraid, what do you do?
