This is a complex subject, and I suggest, that if you are worried, that you consult a Doctor of Medicine. I have a bit more knowledge than the average layman, perhaps, so I will give you food for thought.

Stool consistency is generally related to fibre intake - if you eat a lot of vegetables then your stool will be of a greater volume and more solid consistency than that of the burger and chips eater. In a balanced diet, mouth to anus time for foods will be 48 hours, although some constituents of foods, or certain added spices, chillies and chilli powder being the most common, will be moved through the intestinal tract more quickly than the rest of the chyme (partially digested food in the lower intestine), because these spices are an irritant to the lower gut. Hence a moderately hot curry can cause the 'ring of fire' a day before the rest of the curry's remains are disposed of.

Beer, particularly real ale, and bottled bitter beer, will speed up the bowel, and will also result in a looser stool in many cases, because of the laxative effect of hops and barley, and the increased intake of liquid in the form of the beer itself. Lager will have a lesser effect on the stool, largely because it is a processed, chemicalised beer in which the natural constituents of beer have been replaced by a host of chemicals and gas. The liquid in lager may loosen the stool, however.

Red wine, some sherries, Port and Madiera may cause the stool to be darkly coloured - this can also be witnessed in the drinker of Guinness and other stouts. This is due to natural factors, as a rule. Stouts can loosen the stool dramatically and quickly, due to their contents of roasted commodities, that give the drink its characteristic taste and colour.

Spirits - gin, rum, vodka, whisky etc, should not make a lot of difference to stool consistency.

All alcohol, irrespective of volume or dilution, will increase micturation (make you pee more), as alcohol stimulates the kidneys, early on in the drinking session, to produce more urine. Alcohol is, per se, a poison!

Drinking every day is not a good idea, but maintaining a moderate consumption of beer on a daily basis is better than going out at weekends and getting bladdered, especially on spirits. I drink 5 pints of beer per day, or one pint and a bottle of wine, but I seldom exceed these limits. This consumption puts me above the recommended limits, but this is my own affair. I do not get bladdered, get arrested, or suffer social, economic or personal problems because of my drinking. My wife, who is teetotal, is happy for me to have a few beers, and sometimes encourages me to have an extra pint or two if I have worked particularly hard, either in my job or around the house.

My own view boils down to this - I do not drink tinned beers, poor wine, cheap spirits or meths. I like good beer, and good wine, and having worked as a sommellier ( wine chef) in a good restaurant, there is little that I do not know about vineyards, vintages and crus. In short, I drink for the pleasure of the taste of the beverages, and for the stimulant effect that a moderate amount of alcohol has upon me. This is how alcohol should be consumed.

If you are drinking a lot of lager, vodka, cheap wine, alcopops, or if you are worried about your consumption of alcohol, go and see a doctor of medicine. If you are drinking with the intention of getting pissed, you have a problem. If you drink to relax and get a bit mellow, you have a chance.

It can cause considerable change to bowel habit since alcohol inhibits food absorption. It can cause loose stools due to increasing the perstaltic rate of the bowel but what is passed is largely wasted food, that is ill absorbed so as to cause malnutrition long term. See a Dr and tell him all, this kind of problem can lead to serious vitamin and mineral depletion which will cause bone thinning and blood diseases.

Alcoholism is the two genetic and decision, by using fact, in case your ancestors have been alcoholics you have a greater suitable possibility on being an alcoholic too, yet you go with for on in case you opt to drink or to no longer drink. in spite of the undeniable fact that, in case you have fairly some ancestors who're alcoholics you might have a greater suitable urge to drink alcohol then a guy or woman who would not have an ancestral background of alcoholism. Temptation from different alcoholic each and every person is yet another subject. Go and look in the men's medical wards in any general hospital. 80%(!) of the patients there are in for an alcohol-related problem and associated liver disease; nearly all of them are doubly incontinent.

I've just come back from SA, where drink is very cheap (£2 for a bottle of spirits). Many South Africans (white) are alcoholics.

By the time the bowels are affected, there are usually other signs - loss of muscle and general fatigue, bloated stomach(ascites), mental symptoms and so on. Medical treatment is usually needed by this time.

It certainly can. Consuming alcohol in large amounts disrupts digestion and can lead to severe malnutrition, even in alcoholics who eat (some don't because their caloric needs are satisfied from the alcohol).
