Why not tell him how you got a detention. I don't know your history with detentions—if they are not frequent you can add how stupid you were to have gotten yourself in that situation.

why dotnyou tell your mom, hen tell your dad. Then give them time to discuss wht happnes. They will know that you are disissapointed and they will think you are mitture. You get a detention and the end

I spent half of high-school in detention, they even reserved my seat for me with my name on the desk. I thought that was very nice of them.
