If your daughter has a few close friends rather than a large group of them, I would recommend having the birthday at an inexpensive hotel. You can order pizza for dinner, and let them swim in the hotel pool, then watch a movie before bed.

What about a spa party for her and a few close friends? Some places run group specials, where they can have manicure, pedicure, facial with some makeup. It could be really fun, and different because she is becoming a "young lady" at 12 and losing interest in a lot of the baby stuff. (also helps you put off the boy thing!).

You should re-phrase the whole question so that others who are not privy to the first part have knowledge of this new part. A better way of fixing the problem would be to go and edit or add new information to the first question.

Let her choose a few friends take them to the movies
Swimming party(our local pool does these, water slide games etc. with a host to take care of the kids)
sleep over with videos and pizza
scrapbooking party
last resort...ask your daughter what she wants

try sleepovers they always work. If not try traveling.
