I've noticed that when drinking (mainly when it's wine) that i get a blocked up nose, as if I had a cold. Is it something to do with the type of wine, which grapes its made from or something else. It doesnt seem to happen with white wine as much.

Many people are allergic to the sulfites added to the wine. Look on the back of the label to see if it says "sulfites added", and if so chances are that you'll be stuffy.

There are a few wines that have no added sulfites, but they can be difficult to find. White wines often do not have as many sulfites, and in fact offer the same health benefits that red wines do.

it is the sulphites in some red wines . Avoid really cheap wines and Californian wines.
At least the Austrians have now been banned from putting anti-freeze in their white wine - what a hangover that one caused!

Congeners, probably. These are impurities that occur during the fermentation of alcohol. Red wine of the cheaper varieties often have chemical additives that accentuate the action of congeners.
