Our societal structure which is focused on accumulating wealth and/or consumer goods. We have more than enough resources for every single person to have a good quality of life. Instead we insist on living in a world where a few people get most of it.
In other words, systematic selfishness. Can it sin or Satan if you wish, but that's just removing our responsibility for the situation. We can change it whenever we decide to.

People of various backgrounds ask the same question. But they do not know a simple but important truth that the bible teaches. The real ruler of this world is Satan the Devil. You can find this in the book of (1John 5:19). It clearly states: "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." When you think about it, does that not make sense? Satan is hateful, deceptive, and cruel. So the world under his influence is full of hatred, deceit, and cruelty. That is one reason why there is so much suffering.
But on a positive side God will end all suffering and undo its effects by means of his Government or Kingdom. If you are familiar with the Lords Prayer, which is also called the Model prayer. Where it states, "Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place as in heaven, also upon earth. You are praying for Gods government here on earth.
I hope this has helped.

There are many answers to your question. I think that there is balance in the world, there is much suffering, but also much joy. People suffer in this life because they are "atoning" for things done in previous lives. Life is all about balance, you cannot have good without evil, you cannot have light without dark, you must have both ying and yang, it is the way of things and cannot be changed. YOu can live you life so as not to cause suffering to yourself or others, and you can do things to minimize others suffering, if it is possible for you, but never will suffering be completely eliminated.

COMFORT for Those Who Suffer
OVER the centuries, the question of why God allows suffering has challenged many philosophers and theologians. Some have asserted that since God is all-powerful, he must ultimately be responsible for suffering. The writer of The Clementine Homilies, an apocryphal second-century work, claimed that God rules the world with both hands. With his "left hand," the Devil, he causes suffering and affliction, and with his "right hand," Jesus, he saves and blesses.
Others, unable to accept that God could permit suffering even if he does not cause it, have chosen to deny that suffering exists. "Evil is but an illusion, and it has no real basis," wrote Mary Baker Eddy. "If sin, sickness, and death were understood as nothingness, they would disappear."—Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures.
In the wake of the tragic events of history, especially from the first world war until our day, many have reached the conclusion that God is simply unable to prevent suffering. "The Holocaust has, I think, dismissed any easy use of omnipotence as an attribute appropriate to God," wrote Jewish scholar David Wolf Silverman. "If God is to be intelligible in some manner," he added, "then His goodness must be compatible with the existence of evil, and this is only if He is not all-powerful."
However, claims that God is somehow an accomplice to suffering, that he is unable to prevent it, or that suffering is a mere figment of our imagination offer scant comfort to those who suffer. And more important, such beliefs are utterly at odds with the just, dynamic, and caring God who is revealed in the pages of the Bible. (Job 34:10, 12; Jeremiah 32:17; 1 John 4:8) What, then, does the Bible say about the reason why suffering has been permitted?

Because you are here in doubt of God's word instead of living by it, and loving all man kind, bringing about peace, and putting something positive into the world, instead of negativity.
So I will holla back at Yahoo Q/A later I am going to go about my Father's business and go feed someone hungry and lend a hand where I can instead of sitting here watching you insult the Mighty God I serve... Oh and I wonder why people always blame what's going wrong on God but never look at the things that are going right in this life and give God glory for them?

Because of evil in this world,Jesus told us it would be this way.My hope is not to not have suffering but to become more like him,and bare the fruits of compassion, hope, love, faith, courage, peace, and resting in him through the suffering. When one is in the suffering they try to escape, with all kinds of anesthesia. It will remain suffering unless we say not my will but thy will be done God.Then the grace of God comes in the suffering can be endured.Jesus asked also if this cup could pass by him,of course we do the same.We cannot run from suffering,as it chases us down.We need to endure as the pain will not last forever, for me all I can do at these times is sometimes just whisper to God,why have you forsaken me,why do you let this remain, stop my suffering,I want freedom from this pain,I have become very angry at God,Some of the pain I realize I have created of my own works,my own words,my own heart. Then the grace comes once again to comfort, the mercy of God keeps me form running only to trust more, and go deeper to my father.

there has always been suffering in the world but there's more of it nowadays because there are more humans, far too many humans. humans breed like mindless rodents whether they can feed and house their offspring or not. humans are one of the few species on the planet that will proliferate despite unsuitable environmental conditions. not only are humans overly prolific but we're clever too. we undermine the natural culling process by thwarting disease, accident and lengthening our life span.
not only are we making ourselves miserable with our over self production but we're pushing out every other species that share this planet with us ... except maybe the cockroaches.
add that to the fact that we now have technology that allows us to watch disasters live on TV and on the Internet. we humans are not only causing dire harm to ourselves and our habitat but we get to watch ourselves doing it.

I wish someone could answer this question with authority. But sadly no one can. God is unfortunately dead or has gone missing for several hundred years now. So we must depend on ourselves now and man is too greedy to worry about others. Christians claim to have divine guidance I wish they'd use some of it to alleviate some of the suffering. They don't, so I suppose their just full of it.

You don't need to be a Buddhist to read the Four Nobel Truths.
They are the foundation of Buddhism and explain why we suffer and how to remove suffering.

Where there is sin there will be suffering. People by nature want everything for themselves. As we near the end times the natural affections of mankind are waxing colder and colder. The only way we will every remove suffering from earth under our own power would be to eliminate all humans.
