Run it under cold running water for 10mins. If it is a superficial burn then go to the doctor if it is greater then 5% of the body (equivalent to 5 of the casualty's palms). If it is partial thickness then you need a doctor if it is over 1% of the body. Any full thickness burn needs a doctor's attention, as does any burn to the hand, feet, face or genitals or any burn in a child. Also see a doctor if the burn extends right around a limb as this can cause problems if it constricts blood vessels.

A superficial burn is red and sore, but not blistered. A partial thickness burn is blistered. A full thickness burn is charred.

Dip it in cold water to remove the sting.
Do not put creams or lotions on it, as this will seal the heat in. Simply cover it with a bandage.Once it starts scabbing, then apply something like Triple antibiotic Ointment (TAO).
Before bandaging, wash GENTLY in cool water with soap.
