ok,first of all im not christian, its a religion thats been shoved down my throat at school and i believe it to be thoroughly flawed.buddhism interests me because it invokes peace within oneself and does not instill a fear of some almighty smiting god that requires repentence every week. I believe in peace within self in order to bring peace to others. i have read about it, i ask if its stupid because im only 17 and all ive ever been told about is christianity (stupid school system).and my family might not accept it (not that their christians either)IM NOT CHRISTIAN so please dont try to convert me, it no where near is an answer to my question. Thank you to those who are actually giving usefl answers,i greatly appreciate it

Buddhism is not to convert but to practice ,but you can go along the path said by Buddha.........this is Buddhism
To be a real Buddhist is a once in a million years opportunity
Buddhist believe in Karma & Reincarnation (Cause & Effect)
Our next life is determined from the things we do in this life (Good, Bad)
We try to find the ultimate freedom by purifying our mind from any bad thoughts....and by gaining ultimate wisdom...and achieve Nirvana
We achieve this by Meditation
Our religion never shed blood in the name of religion
We believe every living things has the same right to live and our religion is opposed to killing of any living being (Animals, insects)
We don’t believe that god can bring us happiness or ultimate wisdom...........it’s our mind which can achieve anything....so we don’t worship GOD
We believe there is heavens and many other worlds in the universe
they don’t have any power on us they are worlds like us but only higher than us
When we die we go there according to our Karma. Nirvana is a state of mind, Its not heaven, we believe its better than heaven. Its ultimate bliss of mind
The next life is decided by the energy (Karma)....created by our mind. Nobody judges It, if we have good karma...good worlds….. bad karma...we go to bad worlds...its like water flowing down....its the way of the universe

I used to read a lot about all of that. Its a very interesting way of life, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a religion. After I came to Christ, I realized the buddhist way of life talks about a lot of the same things. It is interesting to study though. The countries where it is the dominating religion... from what I've seen... Its like here, not a lot of people seem to follow it.
I don't know how to "convert". It was just interesting reading for me.

It's not stupid, although I'm guessing that perhaps you don't know all that much about it.
Technically, conversion to Buddhism involves on-going study, meditation practice and a ritual or two. There are several schools of Buddhism and they have different details.
Take classes. Read. Meditate. Practice non-attachment, including non-attachment to conversion. (If you don't know what that means, you're not ready. :-) Find a group to sit with. It will help your practice more than you can imagine.

If you have studied the religion and it is what makes sense to you then it is not stupid. As to how to convert to Buddhism, you will have to look that up, just like you would with any religion you are interested in.

Would be a good idea to get some books and read up on what Buddhism is all about first. Then if there's a B. temple anywhere near you, contact them for information.

I have a friend who is a buddist and I think the religion has merit and good morality. There are several postings on the internet on how to become a buddist. I admire your choice and will pray that this is the right spiritual path for you. Blessings!

Not stupid at all. Buddhism is a wonderful religion; it's one of the most practical. I'm not sure how to convert, but there are several Buddhists that frequent this section - I'm sure on of them will tell you. I, myself, am not Buddhist.
Ignore any people that think you are stupid - they are of weak faith, and weak minds.

You just believe, that's all.
It's a less harmful religion than christianity, which I assume is where you are now - but if you're willing to finally reject it (good for you!) do you really need another to take its place?
But yes, feel free to read up on any religions, including of course any criticism.
